Instituée en 2026, l’Administration provisoire en Marsimède constitue le cadre de l’administration de facto de la Marsimède par le Neugraviat de Saint-Castin.
Sa mission est de mieux connaître le territoire, d’en préserver la mémoire et de contribuer à la protection et à la mise en valeur de son patrimoine, dans le respect de son statut institutionnel particulier.
Established in 2026, the Provisional Administration in Marsimede provides the framework for the de facto administration of Marsimede by the Newgraviate of Saint-Castin.
Its mission is to expand knowledge of the territory, preserve its historical record, and contribute to the protection and enhancement of its heritage, while respecting its particular institutional status.
LA MARSIMÈDE
Au cœur des Laurentides
Située dans les hautes terres de la Réserve faunique des Laurentides, au Québec, la Marsimède s’étend sur environ 664 km² autour du cours moyen de la rivière à Mars. Sa limite occidentale suit la ligne de partage des eaux du bassin versant de la rivière.
Montagnes boisées, lacs, milieux humides, tributaires et vallées encaissées composent un territoire dominé par la forêt boréale. La rivière à Mars en constitue le principal axe naturel : elle traverse la Marsimède depuis les hautes terres avant de poursuivre son cours vers le nord et le fjord du Saguenay.
MARSIMEDE
In the heart of the Laurentians
Located in the highlands of the Laurentides Wildlife Reserve in Quebec, Marsimede covers approximately 664 km² around the middle reaches of the Rivière à Mars. Its western boundary follows the watershed divide of the river’s drainage basin.
Forested mountains, lakes, wetlands, tributaries and steep-sided valleys shape a territory dominated by boreal forest. The Rivière à Mars forms its main natural axis, flowing through Marsimede from the highlands before continuing northward toward the Saguenay Fjord.

Instituée par une loi du Neugraviat de Saint-Castin, l’Administration provisoire définit le cadre général des activités menées en Marsimède.
Sa mise en œuvre relève de la Mission administrative provisoire en Marsimède, placée sous l’autorité du Gouvernement du Neugraviat de Saint-Castin.
Ses travaux portent principalement sur :

la recherche historique et géographique;

la constitution et la conservation des archives;

les inventaires et les études;
-
la documentation du patrimoine naturel, culturel, historique et institutionnel;

l’élaboration de mesures de conservation et de mise en valeur.
L’ensemble contribue à constituer une connaissance durable de la Marsimède et à préserver les sources nécessaires à l’étude et à la transmission de son patrimoine.

ADMINISTRATION
Understanding and preserving the territory
Established by legislation of the Newgraviate of Saint-Castin, the Provisional Administration defines the general framework for activities carried out in Marsimede.
Its work is conducted through the Provisional Administrative Mission in Marsimede, under the authority of the Government of the Newgraviate of Saint-Castin.
Its principal areas of activity include:

historical and geographical research;

the creation and preservation of archives;

inventories and studies;
-
the documentation of natural, cultural, historical and institutional heritage;

the development of conservation and heritage enhancement measures.
Together, these activities help build lasting knowledge of Marsimede and preserve the sources needed to study and pass on its heritage.

Des héritages qui se superposent
La Marsimède se trouve au sein du Nitassinan, territoire ancestral des Innus, parcouru, occupé et utilisé depuis des millénaires. Cette présence constitue la dimension la plus ancienne de son histoire humaine.
À cet héritage s’ajoute une histoire institutionnelle plus récente. La Marsimède correspond principalement à la partie orientale du territoire historiquement associé à la Principauté de Bérémagne, dont l’existence comme entité distincte a pris fin lors des transformations institutionnelles de 2024.
Ces différentes strates historiques font aujourd’hui l’objet de travaux de recherche, de documentation et de conservation.
HISTORY AND
HERITAGE
Layers of history
Established Marsimede lies within Nitassinan, the ancestral territory of the Innu, who have travelled through, occupied and used the land for millennia. This presence represents the earliest dimension of its human history.
Alongside this heritage is a more recent institutional history. Marsimede corresponds primarily to the eastern portion of the territory historically associated with the Principality of Beremagne, whose existence as a distinct entity came to an end during the institutional changes of 2024.
These different layers of history are now the subject of research, documentation and preservation efforts

Une administration de facto
La Marsimède demeure extérieure au territoire constitutionnel du Neugraviat de Saint-Castin, qui en exerce néanmoins l’administration de facto par l’intermédiaire de l’Administration provisoire.
Cette situation est distincte du titre souverain de jure issu de l’évolution institutionnelle de l’ancienne Bérémagne et aujourd’hui rattaché à la Principauté d’Aigues-Mortes. L’établissement de l’Administration provisoire n’emporte ni transfert de ce titre ni modification du statut de jure de la Marsimède.
INSTITUTIONAL STATUS
A de facto administration
Marsimede remains outside the constitutional territory of the Newgraviate of Saint-Castin, which nevertheless exercises its de facto administration through the Provisional Administration.
This situation is distinct from the de jure sovereign title resulting from the institutional evolution of the former Beremagne and now associated with the Principality of Aigues-Mortes. The establishment of the Provisional Administration entails neither a transfer of that title nor any change to Marsimede’s de jure status.

RIVIÈRE À MARS
Le lien naturel entre les territoires
La rivière à Mars forme un axe géographique continu entre la Marsimède et les territoires castiniens situés en aval.
Au centre-est, son cours traverse Cœur-de-Marsimède, district castinien non contigu administré par le canton de Mars-Vive. Il retrouve ensuite la Marsimède avant d’atteindre, plus au nord, la partie principale de Mars-Vive, dans la province du Valinois.
Le cours inférieur de la rivière et son estuaire sont étroitement liés à l’histoire du Valinois et aux origines du Neugraviat de Saint-Castin.
De l’amont vers l’aval, la rivière traverse ainsi successivement la Marsimède, Cœur-de-Marsimède, de nouveau la Marsimède, puis Mars-Vive, avant de poursuivre son cours vers le fjord du Saguenay.
THE MARS RIVER
VALLEY
A natural link between territorie
The Mars river forms a continuous geographical axis between Marsimede and the Castinian territories downstream.
In the central-eastern part of the territory, the river flows through Cœur-de-Marsimède, a non-contiguous Castinian district administered by the Canton of Mars-Vive. It then re-enters Marsimede before reaching the main portion of Mars-Vive, in the Province of Valinois, farther north.
The lower reaches of the river and its estuary are closely linked to the history of Valinois and the origins of the Newgraviate of Saint-Castin.
From upstream to downstream, the river therefore flows successively through Marsimede, Cœur-de-Marsimède, Marsimede again, and then Mars-Vive, before continuing toward the Saguenay Fjord.
